SHARJAH WANDERERS SPORTS CLUB

Sharjah Wanderers Sports Club (SWSC) has been at the centre of Sharjah’s expatriate sporting and social scene for the last 30 years. Started by a small group of enthusiastic expatriates in the mid 1970’s the club was formally constituted in its present form in 1978 and today the club comprises a membership of over 700 active expat members.

The club boasts a host of excellent facilities including two international standard grass pitches, flood-lit tennis courts, squash courts, gym and swimming pool area as well as various dining facilities.

As an established sporting stronghold we are able to cater for sportsmen and ladies of all ages and abilities by providing professional coaching for both sporting teams and individuals. This, combined with our experience of hosting sports tournaments on both a local and international level, cements our position as one of the Gulfs top sporting clubs.

Throughout its history SWSC has always been focused on developing successful sporting sides.

Historically the field sports were held on the sand pitches, however in 2003 the club invested over AED 1.5 million into building two superb grass pitches which are now rated as one of the best surfaces in the region.

The development of the pitches resulted in further interest in field sports and the club now has successful sporting sides playing rugby, soccer and hockey. The enthusiasm from these sporting teams and the exposure gained from their performances culminated with SWSC being named as co-hosts for the IRB Under19 Rugby World Championship. The tournament took place over the month of April 2006 and the resulting reviews from the IRB further enhanced the reputation of Sharjah Wanderers as a leading events arena.

As well as the prospect of future international events, the club regularly hosts popular local tournaments including the Sharjah 5’s Football tournament, the ever popular Sharjah Rugby 10’s. and in 2008 we added the Dubai Australian Rules 9’s tournament to our calendar of annual events.

The development of the pitches was the catalyst for further development at the club and we now boast an excellent 25 metre swimming pool with poolside bars and relaxation areas with sun loungers, tables and chairs. The changing rooms have undergone a major refurbishment and this will continue throughout all areas of Sharjah Wanders Sports Club.

Sharjah Wanderers Sports Club is proud of its history and is looking forward to a bright future. With the Golf Club and Dive Club in the Wanderers family we provide a sporting and social haven in the heart of Sharjah.

Socially, Sharjah Wanderers is renowned for it’s friendliness and varied dining opportunities with an excellent Burgundy’s Restaurant, Main and Sports Bar, poolside Juice Bar and Dive bar. Throughout the year there are many varied activities and events organised for the members, including Burn’s supper, murder mystery, band nights, craft fairs, theme nights, wine tasting and fashion shows to list just a few.
